When you get a really good tarot deck you are connected with it almost right away.
The images make sense to you and tell you a story. Because of this I don't like tarot decks that lack a sense of direction [manga tarot decks and so on, they are very hard to read because the images give no clue to the meaning].
The closer you are to your tarot deck the easier readings are for you, you won't need to open the booklet with all the answers anymore. You'll know, because when you see a card you'll remember the story the image tells.
In a complete reading you can see how they relate to one another positionally, and a lot of the time the answer will come to you in spurts. Where you actually are told more information, via your subconscious [which is where the power of the cards comes from] than simply this card means hardship. You might see images or it will all come to you at once. You might say this card means hardship. I understand there is a point in your life in which you are going through a trial, judging from the three characters on the card I understand you have a family and you often worry about your burdens becoming those of your family etc.
You just need to make sure your not jumping to conclusions only reveal the information you know, don't pretend you know more about them than you do. Don't say well this card signifies a strong male figure which means you've got a man in your future! Because, that's not how it works. Tarot is actually fairly realistic in it's meanings, don't give people fairytales, tell them what you know.
gonna start trying to learn tarot!

This to is true.
Usually the reading will come out biased or not make any sense.
You can perform a reading on yourself the first couple of times you attempt to read tarot, simply because you don't know what the cards mean/haven't developed a 'bond' with them yet.
Once you develop a bond with them or know a little bit about tarot, the cards have a tendency to fight with you when you try to give yourself a reading [aka all 'negative' cards].
I've found though that sometimes when I give readings to others if they say it doesn't make sense to them/apply to them, more often then not it was a reading for me.
