I have to agree with Eretik about the Runes/Tarot Correspondences page.

While one does get some interesting input *comparing* these two, they aren't by any stretch of the imagination, really compatible except in a few cases.

I could go on and on... in fact, I'm feeling sufficiently geeky to go all out and write up a big article thingie (technical term) about why they as listed aren't compatible, but why even better choices (mine...) don't work either.

It's going to be.. LONG. It may take me a while, too, since I'll need to do illustrations.

I mean, I really gotta rant about putting Algiz and The Moon together. OR heck, the Tower and FEHU??? Even taking into account a gnostic view of the world it STILL doesn't make sense. So Thorssen does, "today is opposite day???" Grumble.

I mean, if they were going for the full tilt gnostic view, wouldn't they use "the Devil" and "Fehu" instead??? Or even "Othala" and the "Devil"??
I'd have to re-evaluate to see if he does the Thelemite version of Gnostic, which is even weirder, but I think I would have seen that already.

To be brutally honest, I think he put these out just to see if the people he was associating with knew anything about symbolism... and anyone with the where-with-all to correct him sensibly might have gotten extra points.
That's the charitable explanation. :P I would NOT give this list to novices trying to learn about runes!!!

(funny how I remember reading that Thorssen's ego might not have been up to this...)

Oh, and I might actually put this into a webpage and link it here, so I can be a little more effective with the formatting. (I don't know PHP)

That would be grand Juniper.

We are both very much'on the same page' with this.lol.Thorsson has done some excellent work on Norse traditions/magick but he is first and foremost a LHP practitoner and is/has been a high ranking member of several Satanic groups and orders,he has an agenda to push.I don't like that agenda. There was a lot of nastiness with the Odinic rite and the IOT [Illuminates of Thanateros, for those who don't know - a prominent Chaote order] a few years back.Questions of neo nazism and fascism abounded, accusations and schisms everywhere. The ONA[order of nine angles] is heavily interested in Runic and Norse associations, they twisted the beliefs into a new shape alongside the tree of life from Kabbalah and tied it up with Gnostic mysticism,it is apparently to do with the Azerate [anti- gods]and Antinomian current.Dark stuff.MLO is heavily involved too, they are affiliated with the ONA [extreme group].These guys are the church burners and black metal fanatics, some of whose band leaders are now serving murder sentences, across Scandinavia,in the name of racial purity, these orders are dangerous.
Thats why I stay away from groups and organisations, within the Norse paths. They are far too heavy on pushing the 'Germanic' agenda. We know that the Northern Europeans fought, mixed and integrated, the blood is not just Germanic, or exclusively so,yet it still gets pushed so hard.Odin of the Aesir learned Magick from the Vanir who were not solely of Germanic origin, nor were those who lived before and mixed with the Van people.History and Archaeology proves this, yet we still get 'folk' and 'folkish' Germanic' and 'the importance of ancestry' pushed on us by these people. That was a bit of a rant.Sorry.

It's ok, Eretik, I understand. This is "frothing at the mouth" worthy stuff... particularly the "racial purity" and so on. I mean, come ON people!!! I find it HYSTERICAL to think that a racial purist is using Kabbalah! Poor Gershom Sholem is turning over in his grave. OR even tarot, what with it having been (by rumor, at any rate) used by Gypsies. Did I mention that Hitler hated gypsies more than he did the Jews??? I wonder which of his relatives THAT reflects??

I mean, let's face it, we can't even agree what color THOR's hair is. In some places he's blonde, and in some places, he's got flaming red hair. Odin is swarthy and dark, (maybe not complected, but his hair is like coal). Which means he might be pictish, and if you read the literature that's almost as bad as being an Arab. Oh, but I'm talking about the 19th centuary "race science" *shudder* do I need to go on? Let's not even delve into the fact about the various intermarriages with Giants, humans and the like... and, as you say, the Vanir and Aesir being different folk anyhow... and how they pretty much coexist. (with stresses, like any good marriage)

The only way in which racial descrimination existed in the ancient world, was this notion that beyond your tribal grouping, you couldn't be sure everyone was human. So it was more like a historical *Chinese* perspective, than your average skin-head.
Plus that whole... "we've been killing each other for centuries... it's traditional" BS.

Anyway, if you look at the cultural systems of the Norse, it's clear they didn't have a racial agenda. They traded peaceably with the Native Americans, the Arabs, and everybody they didn't steal from. You can't be a practically baseless multi-national trading empire if you won't do business with your neighbors. Also, they, unlike so many others, had a procedure to turn relative strangers (even servants and POWs...the most common source of slaves in those days) into FAMILY. They were also horrified at the Arabian/Roman practice of slavery... which is the model that the Western culture adopted, to our everlasting shame.

That is Norse culture, it's sickening to see people with shove their wrong-headed ideas into it.

So you have MY rant now. :P

Edit:
On, and to get back on topic... heh heh...

I WILL have this article written. Its' taken longer than I thought, partially because your OCD host has just discovered that she has to design a tarot deck, at least the major arcana. While I will try to avoid having to use the full version of my cards when publishing of the article, since these 21 images will take a WHILE to do.... I will try to at least get the article and some quickie representations of the cards for temporary use, then update them when I have the full versions. Sigh. Sorry about this, but it's going to be a few days, possibly a week. Sorry folks.
