hello
Ive had bad expieriences with Satan, I wont say what they are because their personal memories to me that conducts the way i live and who i am.
Any entity can bite you in the ass if you rub them the wrong way. They are all dangerous as eachother in my view. They can screw your head up, you could be in an asylum.
Lets put it this way....
I started out with witchcraft, started calling entities without knowing what the f*ck i was doing only reading text i found on the internet.
Now im in a mental health unit...
I may have had a few bad runs with Satan, but i know for a fact, if you have a faint heart he can screw your mind up... Bigtime.
In conclusion, I would suggest prefered to read into what your letting yourself in for. Like casting protection on yourself to ward off anything bad (i think thats were i went wrong). Just be all well knowing of the things that can go wrong and how to tackle them positivley.
Anyway im going to get off your back now, im only saying this because i wouldnt wish it on anyone what certain things did to me.
Play safe...

Hi
i think satan is a christian perversion of the old gods and it depends what country your in as to the name of the god the christians tried to tell you was satan, back then christianity was a new church looking for power to control everyone, so if you wern,t one of them you where evil they where the born agains of that time now a couple of thousand years on there established with a massive power base, which is what they where after most of there so called holy days where on or near pagan festival days, which helped to get converts, have a look at the tarot card xv Cernunnos, is that horns i see, gods go by different names in different places but its still the same god, the goats head as a representation of satan is seen by christians as un holy because of the implied strength and virility and independant free spirit, which is what the christians preached against because it cant be easily controlled, and control is what the christians wanted/want. I also agree with Human that all deities can be dangerous so its sensible to work with protection, every time you ask a deity to attend, and to treat it with respect because they get pissed off the same as we do,
protection is easy draw a circle it gives protection and shows respect because your letting the deity make its own atmosphere and not forcing it to use yours, even though it can live in ours its probally more comfortable in its own

Unfortunately Christianity, particularly in America has lost it's focus a little.
Before Man was created it was just God and the Angels. Lucifer was an ANGEL!!! He started to question God's ways and got sent down to govern Hell.
Satan is made up people!! Satan and Hell were just a way to keep the public in the Church. They used to put terrifying images above the congregation....two contrasting images....one of Heaven - pleasant and beautiful...the other of Hell - where people were depicted writhing around in pain for all eternity. Basically, the Church said...if you don't worship God then you'll go to Hell. Also, if you don't give your money to the Church...you'll go to Hell too!"
That really is the true history of Hell and Satan...a way to scare people into going to Church and following their religion. For example; the book of Revelations....never in any New Age bible....why??? Because the Church no longer wishes to be depicted as this religion that scares people into following.
Also, I don't know if you've ever heard of the Eccumunical Counsel???
A group of men who decided which books should be contained in the Bible and which shouldn't.
And the Vatican is refusing to publish what people believe to be the Book of Judas...says to me that the Church has something to hide.
Incidentally, when they went off on their little rampage to kill witches and burn them....the first ever recorded witch was the Witch of Endor....King Saul didn't actually kill her, they used her powers to raise a guy from the dead. And Saul was thankful to her....he didnt execute her.
I do however believe that there is a force equivalent to the Devil....there are many evil influences in this world.....kind of like demons....but that's too much of a vague thing for me.
Being a former Christian...I take great pride in proving them to be wrong....and I'm sorry to say guys...that alot of American Christians take it waaaaay too seriously!
This is my rant!!!

This is an old-ish thread, but I read the entries and was sorta of...er...blow away I guess is the only thing I could say, and kinda wanted to give out a different perspective. By the way, I'm a Christian, so this is going to be from the Christian perspective. Just so you know.
The views my religion takes on Satan is this---Lucifer was an angel that was cast down from Heaven during a battle with God. Lucifer wanted to become God, in a sense, and ***IN OUR OPINION*** that is impossible, so God told him to chill out, but Lucifer wouldn't listen, so he and many of his rebel angels were cast down and given run over earth and hell pretty much. There are demons that do his biddings, and there is a demon-line hierarchy *I'm not sure I used the right word for this* meaning that there are different types of demons on different types of badness level. There is Lucifer himself aka. Satan, then there are devils, demons, and more that I just don't know about right at the moment, but I'm learning.
Now, that's simply from a Christians perspective. Different cultures/religions have their own...explanation for Satan I suppose you could say. Take Satanists for example. They view Satan as their God *I think, I could stand to be corrected on that statement. Look up Satanism cuz I'm not quite sure* and he stands for something completely different for them then what he does for me. I've read on this site that many believe that there are no demons, just decieving and mischivious spirits that cause trouble...well, for Christians, that's exactly what a demon is, except we throw in the word evil every now and then.
And also, just a comment about a statement I read about God flooding the earth and all that: From my understanding, God flooded the earth because basically, people were screwing up, and they had screwed up pretty much beyond the point of salvation. I know this contradicts the New Testiment, but bear in mind that the flood story happens in the Old Testiment, which happens to be the equivilant of the Jewish Bible (The Tenak ***I cant spell that word, must get dictionary***). God is seen different in the OT then in the NT. Christians follow the NT, and the Jewish folksies follow the OT. Poiint of all that is, don't confuse the idea of salvation in the OT with the NT because, in my perspective, its different.
Anyway, back to the flood---God came to Noah and told him to build an arch. So he did. And he and his family survived and re-populated the planet. Pretty kewl huh?
No body but me may take any stalk in these stories or this belief system, but I figured I'd throw another theory or so out there. I love coming to this site and learning about a different walk of life, and I completely respect everything everyone on here stands for, but I've never said anything about being a Christian on here much because of the negative things I've read about Christianity on this site. So, all that I ask is to be shown the same respect I give out
Like I said, no one may believe what I believe, but I hope this helps spark some conversation at the very least!
P/S I'm sorry if I didn't articulate this well. Its 2am and I'm quite tired.

I think you articulated that very well, especiallly for being tired. Some of us have a negative opinion of Christianity, some have had bad experiences and some, like me ,despise the wrongs of the past by all big three monotheistic faiths.I treat people individually,I know decent, friendly Christian/Muslim and Jewish folks and they can't be blamed for past hurts any more than any other person living now.Fundies of all faiths bother me though.

Thank you Eretik
I'm sorry that you've had a bad experience with Christians. Heh, wanna know the truth...so have I lol. Which is the main reason I don't go to church anymore. I live in a small town in Texas, so I've grown up with a lot of....er...hypocricy I suppose you could say. I have to hide my interest in the paranormal and the occult. Its quite annoying. But, I'm a friendly Christian
I loved this thread though. It's very interesting reading all the different interpritations of Satan!

Well, there are friendly Christians out there. I happen to be marrying one.
I'm glad to see that this discussion has become more balanced. I was gearing up to do something similar, but I haven't had *that* conversation with my sweetie yet. (How do I put this? He was a Jesuit in a previous life!)
I've been pretty sick of the way a lot of pagans treat all Christians. Yes, some of them really need their head examined, and a great many of them are extremely annoying, and even do great harm at the expense of all around them... just think of how the nice ones feel?! My sweetie has ranted about this a great deal, since he has to deal with the flack from the other end... or even from "his own people."
Oh, and for those of you who can't believe that there are good Christians out there... read www.thisistrue.com. Look up the stuff about religious tolerance. You see hundreds, nay, thousands of good hearted people talking about how awful it is that a *pagan* girl was harassed by Christians into committing suicide. Without any of the backhanded sentiment that you sometimes see with those who are a bit too self-righteous for their own good.
Not just that, but many of the people posting there have a very different perspective on the whole religion question than what the folks who annoy us, or the family members who suppress, harass, and hate us. If true freedom of religion weren't believed in deeply by a large body of people... what we have today in the US and elsewhere wouldn't be possible. I'm not saying it's perfect... I'm just saying we've come a long way since the 1600's.

I do believe that my rant was a little harsh. As a Wiccan, I am gradually learning to be more tolerant. I have all the time in the world for Christians who are loving and caring...but for the ones who treat Wiccans and Pagans like scum, and try to stop Witchfest and things like that, I have no patience for them. I get angry at THOSE ones. But for the rest of the Christian population, I have no problems with them. You're all very very very LOVELY people.
