Sobek - Djinni have many legends and stories attached to them. There are the 'Disneyesque' hollyweird versions and older folk tales too. There is also a wealth of infomation in the history and mythology of the Middle E ast, I know Mohammedanism, like Christianity, has corrupted and twisted much of it's past in regard to spiritual belief - this is no exception. I have some material on them somewhere I will get out and check. I remember something about elemental connection, spirits of the desert and fire etc. part of the katabolic but necessary forces, I can't say accurately offhand. As I said before they fascinate me. I'm drawn to the darker aspects of everything! I know you cannot buy the power of a Djinn over the internet - but a pretty thing is worth buying for it's own sake. I've seen all kinds of claims for everything under the sun on the net, there's obviously profit to be made.

P.S. I am going to post some links and make another thread on this, There are references to Goetic similarity you may be interested in Sobek. I was right about Fire and elements.

I have never studied djinn, but I would have to agree with wolf on the aspect.

Think about this, you were a criminal to become a djinn, and you are slapped in chains(basically) and told you have to grant wishes, but we are allowing some part of free will so you know what is happening to you. Would you really want the wishes i would grant.

you'd be surprised how many people would take a wish, knowing that it would effect everything and everyone around them.

Sobek, I wouldn't be surprised by how many people would do that, just disgusted and saddened. There is far too much selfishness and greed out there (yeah, I'm a happy hippie). I personally wouldn't use a djinn or anything else in that way without really good reason.

Djinn

Like many of you here, I have started looking for information on Djinn, and have, of course, come across the many muslim sites which tell of them. I agree with the mod here, there is as much corruption in the muslim belief systems as there are in the christian bible (just look at what they have to say about the pagans!)

This is my understanding of Djinn:
They have souls. They also have families.
They are born of smokeless fire.
They dwell on the plane between earth and the angelic realm.
They have free will.
They will interact with people after we have earned their respect.
They do not grant endless wishes as the movies show.
They can HELP you to obtain the things they believe you need.
They are attracted by mages and bound to vessels, but they are not in chains, they still have time away but will come if called, provided you have established a rapport.
There are 6 tribes of Djinn. Of these 6, the Marid (water) djinns are
the ones most willing to work with humans.
Djinn become 'dormant' if there is not contact from the owner of the vessel. They do, however, continue to live in their realm.
Establishing a connection requires time, patience, and a willingness to
give as well as receive. Much like establishing rapport with the nature spirits.
You must know the name of your djinn to summon him/her.
Demanding wishes after summoning thru invocation can get you results, although they may not be what you wanted.
Most djinn bound vessels do not require invocation, only meditation and
dreams to establish contact with the djinn energy.

I'm brand new at this (djinn interest) but have been a pagan since I was a young girl. I have read most of the muslim websites, and I expect they refer to the evil djinn, which in their beliefs are any djinn that are not muslim. Yes, djinn have religions too!. I have had a hard time finding other resources for info, but found this website:
http://www.creepyhollows.com/guide_djinn.shtml

I have also made a purchase recently, and have spoken at length to the seller who told me the history of how he came by the vessels he has offered for sale (very limited). Many of these have been in Tibet, Saudia Arabia, Nepal, Egypt, as family artifacts, with the djinn who have been with the vessel (although maybe dormant) for many generations. They are awakened and then offered for sale.

I have yet to recieve my item, and it is not wealth or riches I wish for. Djinn can help to open the 3rd eye chakra, expand your understanding of the universe, and provide white light. I wish to expand my knowledge of metaphysics.

Interesting enough, since my purchase, (and I heard a voice telling me just how much to bid!), I have learned the name of my djinn and have practiced pronouncing it. That very night I started having very lucid dreams, and I woke up yesterday with one of those 'ah ha' moments about something that needed attention in my life and steps that needed to be taken.

Do djinn exist? I don't know. I know what I have read, I know what various texts and people say. But to really know, I will need to experience it. I don't expect it to be a quick process, but I have always been one to enjoy studying and applying myself to understand. I'll continue to keep my journal and see what happens.

In Light,
Alex
