salt cleansing method

Postby Binglian » Mon Sep 03, 2018 11:31 pm

Hi everyone, I have been into cleansing alot lately, and one of my favorite ways is to use salt as a cleansing tool. I always used regular table salts because that's what I have on hands. But I am wondering if it would make a difference using other type of salts, such as pure sea salt or pink Himalayan rock salt? It would be so much fun if I could actually branch out from my regular table salt and into other varieties.

Thanks!

In my experience? There's not much of a difference. Chemically speaking, sea salt and table salt are the same thing, sodium chloride. Sea salt is of course made from evaporated sea water, and it's often a bit less processed, so you might find some benefit in that - more so if you're doing a working relating to the ocean, I find, but of course personal experience can vary. Table salt is mined from old salt water deposits (so both ultimately originate from the sea). It's often a bit more processed. May have iodine in it, but iodine is a natural purifier, so if you're using the salt to cleanse that's more of a bonus, to me. Table salt also often has additives which prevent caking, which some don't like. Himalayan salt is basically the same as the other salts (still sodium chloride), but it has some minerals in it to give it the pink color. It's still pretty much salt, just less refined, as sea salt often is.

All three salts can be used in much the same way - they can purify, cleanse, protect, banish, and so on. For me, the major difference in how they are used comes with the texture. Sea salt is often quite coarse, and works very well for things like bath salts. (Same with pink salt, it makes a good base for baths where the color pink would be good, such as making bath salts for love.) Or for making something like black salt. Table salt works better for making things like natron (used in some Egyptian rituals), or if the salt needs to dissolve in water quickly. And of course, you can get Himalayan sea salt in large chunks, from anything like a candle holder, to smaller pieces you can use in amulet pouches, set in room corners, and so on.

There may be usefulness in connecting to the geographic location the salt came from if ancestors originated there; or in considering what minerals give it a specific color. There's white & gray Mediterranean Sea Salt, gray Celtic Sea Salt, natural Hawaiian black salt; & in cooking there is briny pickling salt & salts smoked with hickory or apple wood. Expand to a fruitfulness of nature.
