Not sure if this is the correct area to post this question but if not just tell me and I'll delete/repost somewhere else.
I'm currently living with my parents after college and I have been pretty depressed. I want to use sage to cleanse the energy of my bedroom (where I spend most of my time) but my parents don't know about my beliefs and interest in witchcraft. To add on to this, my father hates the smell of sage. Does the sage have to be lit in order to work? I really just want to cleanse my room of the bad energy but don't want to make the whole house smell.
Thanks!
Does sage have to be lit to work?
Re: Does sage have to be lit to work?
Does anything have to be lit to work?
Yes, if you want to smoke cleanse using sage, you'll probably have to light it.
I agree with planewalker about finding other ways to cleanse, spraying salt water or maybe using essential oils could help.
However, you're probably not just feeling depressed because of negative energies in your room, so I hope you're also working on other solutions to combat depression!
Good luck with everything

You can make a scented room spray with 2-3 tablespoons of broken sage pieces in 1-cup. Simmer covered for 10 min. Cool, strain, decant liquid into a spray bottle with 1 tsp rubbing alcohol.
Small bowls of table salt placed in corners will absorb neg-energies. Replace salt weekly. Pout old salt down a drain.

There are other ways

Grind up the sage, bless it, then sprinkle it on the floor
Make a tea out of sage, bless it, then sprinkle it on the floor (similar to using Holy Water).
Make sure to vacuum it up within a few house though. Sage draws in negativity, like salt, so if you don’t sweep it up it will just hang around. My favorite technique is to do it for 4 days in a row.
When I was in this situation (living with a roommate who would become physically nauseous by the thick sage smoke), I would wait till he left for work for the day, cleanse the house, then leave the doors and windows open for the rest of the day to invite fresh air in. He usually didn’t notice after 5 or 6 hours of letting the house clear out.
Personally, I like it when the house is filled with sage and other incense. Haha at one point a friend of mine came over and asked if I’d burned my dinner, because there was so much smoke everywhere.
Re: Does sage have to be lit to work?
Actually any of the incense cones or sticks will do the job as it is the thought as much as the smoke that carries the energies to expels negative vibrations. I like Wisteria.
