GenevieveDawn says it all! Pop-culture often likes to glamourize witchcraft for people to think it is something that it isn't. I remember when I first started becoming interested in witchcraft the movies 'The Craft' and 'Practical Magic' were coming out. As sad as it sounds, I kind of looked at witchcraft because I was wondering if there was a way you could get results like you saw in the movies. But I learned that it is so much more and that hollywood fed me a line of BS. Am I disappointed with how it really is in witchcraft? No! In fact I find it fascinating still and wish that I had friends or family who were involved with it as well. But I am alone since my family is mostly roman catholic and methodist. I've kind of hidden the fact that I interested in this path. I still don't understand all about witchcraft, but that is why I came here. To learn and be guided, and be surrounded by people who are interested in the same path as myself. :D

I'm going to be honest, The thing that got me intrested in witchcraft was the movie The Craft. It was scary and fun and I wanted a life like that. I quickly found out it was nothing like the movie but pursued it anyway and found some intresting stuff. See, good things come from media portrayals...

I'm not surprised if its more popular. The Catholic Church has lost a lot of credibility in my country for reasons that are well known. Most people still say they are religious in polls, but in reality we tend to pick and choose what parts we like and don't. So we're not so deterred by their traditional warnings against dabbling in this sort of thing.

I think this is more so in Europe generally. In America I would assume the reasons are not always the same though. Christianity is still very strong there, but perhaps many engaging in this don't see a conflict with their faith because in their eyes the spirits they are seeking contact with are in the Christian Heaven.

I think that's a good point, Celtic Druid, it seems that a lot of people have become disillusioned with what their first religion was offering them, it's not always forms of Christianity either, though there does seem to be a bit of drifting away from more rigid forms of religion, to more flexible, whether people come into paganism though, or simply into more flexible forms of their own original beliefs is another issue altogether though. :)

Wicca is one of the fastest growing religions. But pyschic readings have no part in that, many of those are rip offs, like Miss Cleo and all that trash.
Not ALL people who do tarot readings for others are fakes, my Momma Witch did it before when she went to a couple of big cities since it is easier to do a reading for someone if you do not know them.

I must admit I don't think all tarot readers / psychics etc. are fakes either. I just think it's a shame that so many people are cashing in on it when they have no talent, and then you've got the serious people who actually do want to help, being devalued because of a lot of others.

I really donno why its becomeing more populer but i have been notising that it is. I will be honest the reson why i started reading up on it was for 2 resons my parents where aginst it and 2 my aunt whould be able to help me. Now i have matured up a little and understand what its about. I also feel bad i started doing it out of spit. I think thats why alot of kids start. Its just sad to see them doing the thing where thay kill cats and say its for ther god because he told them to. I am glad i didnt get into it like that, my friend did and he knows it was silly and got out of it.

And the tarot card thing i whould love to go to but i know almost all the ones around me are probly in it all for the money or are fake. I know people need to make a liveing but 30 dollers for a 3 or 5 card reading i think is to much. For prices like that i will just strugal with my own cards.
