First ritual ?

Hello everyone, I'm new to witchcraft and to this whole lifestyle, although I am very dedicated and I've just read Scott Cunningham's book multiples times in the past few days.
I started getting interested two weeks ago, and since then, I've been trying meditation - also, I currently own a knife, three candles, some herbs, a crystal quartz and an amethyst.

Tonight, I just tried and held my first ritual. Nothing big, no magic performing, just me and my candles, some incense, my stones and my thoughts. I tried very hard to feel my energy and to picture a circle around me, using the power of my will and imagination.
I did feel pure energy run through my fingertips, but nothing more.
I am not disappointed, though. It was the first time. I can't become a Wiccan wizard all of a sudden.

But what about you ? Did it take you some time before actually knowing what you're doing during rituals ? Did it seems a bit off the first tries ? Was it hard to get to actually focus, concentrate and use your power ? How was the first ritual / spell that "worked" for you ?

Haha yes it was very difficult at first.

My biggest mistake was misunderstanding where the energy comes from. I would focus on my hands only. Now I know that's certainly not the source.

Hi and welcome to the fold. It sounds like you are doing quite well, actually, to recognize what you were feeling.

My early rituals were mixed; some good, some hilariously klutzy; make-do gear & 1/2-price candles that work just fine. I recall writing out step by step ritual instructions in large print on paper that I taped to the walls. It was easier to experience the energy when i worked out doors & the feeling “clicked”. I already knew how to meditate from other studies. My first attempts at making my own incense smelled like a forest fire & I had to remove the smoke detector ...
