Fading connection

Postby Ashrend » Sun Jul 02, 2017 4:27 am

This is more a personal question than a magic one but it still concerns magic ect. Recently I changed jobs and I love it, the pay is better, 2 hours less than old job and I'm getting fit and rid of my love handles walking to and from work(2 hours there and back).

My only issue is I'm finding I don't have time to study my magical practices or perform anything and I feel like my connection to it all is almost as weak as before I awoke. I've started wearing a pentagram again to give me some connection but it doesn't feel enough, has anyone got any ideas on what I can do when I'm so struck for time

Use the time you spend walking, to connect with nature. You can be in a semi-meditative state while you're walking. Just don't go so deep that you endanger yourself.

Walking is great for meditating and visualizing with intent. Use the rhythm of your walking pace to enter semi trance, like Snow said. Use prayer beads & chant. Use the cross roads you encounter for positive affirmations. If you're downtown that's quite a few affirmation ops. It's probably the sense of the familiar custom that's changed. Your connection is ready and waiting to be tapped.

I've been feeling the same way lately. Carrying crystals in my pocket at work has helped a little bit, but I'll be honest, I am still struggling.

When I realize that I have begun to lose my feeling of connectedness, I take moments to remind myself of what, to me, is an absolute truth---that all which lives both in the seen and the unseen are intrinsically and irrevocably connected. World soul, the All in All, the Anima Mundi...whatever it is called across traditions, I find the reality of it a vast comfort, and a readily available reminder that the feelings of separation and isolation from the greater, beautifully magical world out there are just that; FEELINGS of separation, rising up naturally from the human mind which relies on this-and-that, here-and-there distinctions to get on through the day.

Like what's been said, long stretches of walking is an excellent opportunity for meditation, and as for actually practicing works of magic, there's no need for that to be confined to the home, altar, or circle. Visualization--meaning engaging ALL five of the internal senses, not just sight--can be done pretty much anywhere, and so long as you're sincerely feeling what you're seeing, it's as potent a spellcraft as you'd accomplish anywhere else. Walks are fantastic opportunities to hone those skills.

Additionally...got an mp3 player? If the sounds you're surrounded by on your walk are uninspiring at best, a playlist of empowering music can work wonders. I personally really enjoy Wardruna for this...their runic chants are crazy beautiful. Fehu might be a particularly applicable track to meditate on or do a working with while heading towards a place you earn a living at.
The map is not the territory, the facet is not the jewel.
