Ok so recently with a friends help iv discovered that my horns are a gift from herne. Iv done some googling but all that reveals is origins such as it being another form of the horned god .what is he to witches? What does he do? How do you honor him? How do you join the hunt whilst meditating? Why did he give me horns? How big do they grow and for how long? What makes them grow? Any and all info other than origins would be helpful

Re: Herne info
It is not for me to answer all your questions , Binxy Hollow...
However , I consider this link to be a relatively good one ,
for information to begin...
British Traditional Witchcraft ( BTW ) , does not talk about
their ways , yet I can say I have participated in a real life
enactment of the Wild Hunt , in the middle of the night ,
in dark woodlands...
In the morning light , the body was ragged , skin scratched
and torn , yet the energy of the Wild , and the Faery , was
a Gift in exchange for the sacrifice...

Re: Herne info
To me Herne is Lord of the Forest, the green, and the furry, feathered and finned life; a representation of the the primary male active, quality of creative energy. I don't adhere to a Wiccan pantheon, but to an astral energy force...for lack of accurate terms...which can take any form. He displays the birth, life, death and rebirth cycles. In the guise as Herne this force is depicted as a fantastic buck with a majestic antler rack.
Why is this god or spirit of the forest depicted as a male deer? What does a male deer tell you about this god-force? I'm not even sure Herne is a god, or a spirit of the woods.
What i see in the shape of antlers is the antlers go up into the sky in the shape similar to a tree's branches, (and roots too.) The horns also depict the branching paths of underground streams, and the radiating pulse of earth energies coursing through the underworld. So he unites the earthly realm and underworld. And in the middle realm are the deer trods, migration trails, the ley lines or ghost paths. All this is connected. And Herne represents the connection, which is life force. So the most important thing he depicts is vitality, life, energy.
Whatever nurtures and supports life, whatever connects and moves life force (forked Stang, wand) is His. I see the Hunt as the death sacrifice, that renews life. he is The King, or Queen laying down his/ her life. This scenario plays throughout so many Nature Mystery themes, over and over.
Edit-I have no idea about your meditation horns. That is between you and Herne. You may want to think on it by brainstorming word-associations to see what horns mean to you. Look at the whole meditation almost like dream interpreting. Study deer life, the habitats, their natures & habits, migration, antler development, breeding...whatever. These are clues to the meaning. Google male deer to learn what he represents. What he does is what a deer does. What does that mean to you? What does it mean in today's industrial world? I'm learning about this too, by the way, regarding Elen...so we can browse & share the good sites we find.
