Animal communication

Postby silvergrey » Tue Jun 14, 2016 5:01 pm

... or more specific to my case: mouse communication.

So this might be a little strange, but a few weeks ago I noticed mouse droppings behind my sofa. Not alarming amounts, just a few but still. I have since seen a mouse on multiple occasions, scooting across the floor, sharing breakfast with my rabbit, it's sat on the couch with me (then ran off when I spotted it) and today I noticed a slight rustle in the curtains, went to examine them and ended up actually touching the little guy. I've placed a catch and release trap he absolutely refuses to get into no matter the bait, I've closed all the holes in the walls I could find but it's still here.
And I get it, I really do. My house is warm and cozy, it's just me and my rabbit so no predators, and if a tiny morsel a day is good enough then this house is practically a banquet.

But I didn't invite this guy in and I'd really prefer it gone. However I see killing at as the very, very last resort for ethical reasons. Conventional, animal friendly ways don't seem to work. So I was wondering, would animal communication be an option at all, to somehow work something out? I'd be interested in your thoughts on this! Oh, any other animal friendly options to get mr mouse out of my house are welcome too!

A lot of animals communicate by telepathy. Try talking to him, and explain why you want him to leave. Be ready to listen to his response. He may have a purpose in being there.

I've got four cats and a very brave, or very stupid mouse was here for 2-3 days in late May, helping itself to the bowl of dry cat food. It also happened some years ago with a chipmunk. Both times, I removed the bowl of enticing morsels and left the back door propped open and it left on it's own.

I did the telepathy thing, and it was just hungry.

Not sure if this might be a coincidence but I had an encounter with the mouse just now. I saw it scooting across the floor and asked it what it wants. I asked out loud, and I was immediately overcome by a sense of dread. The mouse then disappeared and popped up again a few minutes later from underneath my rabbit's hutch. I got such a strong sense of feeling trapped, and I realised that when I closed off its entrances into the house I may have locked it in. It ran off into hiding, and I went to one of the entrances ont he other side of the room and opened it up again. At the next sound of tiny little feet I said "Honey it's open again, you can go" and it just went right in. Then I closed it off again. I hope this was the last of it, but I'll keep you updated!

That's very interesting! I really believe it's possible to communicate with animals.
I'll have to try telepathy on my fish. I've bought several new fish this week. They are peaceful and technically should get on well with the fish I already had. But the "old" fish are still afraid of new ones and keep in a group hidden between plants near bottom. They almost don't move, not even during feeding. I'm sorry for them. I feel their stress. I will try to explain they don't need to be afraid of new ones. They are the same species, only different varieties and I haven't seen any aggressive behaviour from the new ones.

Hopefully it's just temporary and they will learn to live together.

Maybe it had a friend who wants to leave now too? Otherwise, best just name it.

Don't worry, it's not strange at all. Thanks to my laziness, a lot of ants have been on my desk because of all the popsicle sticks left there. I've discovered today that I can actually telepathically communicate with them, and 2 out of the 3 willingly did what I asked (to get on the paper so I could bring them outside). One little ant, however, persistently did the opposite of everything I asked, taunting me, until he realized that I wasn't have any of his shenanigans and left the house, with my careful guidance. Like SnowCat said (if the mousey is still there), just talk to him, or perhaps make a deal with him that he can stop by for a treat anytime, so long as it's not too often and he doesn't stay? If he doesn't budge, I just suggest you let him stay. Why not have a little mousey chilling about, so long as he doesn't harm anyone.

Oh, also, just a little side note, my friend recently got a dog that yaps whenever someone's in the room non-stop, but as soon as I enter and look him in his cute little eyes, telling him to be quiet and that he'll get his attention soon enough, the room is more or less silent (he still barks as if to ask when). So, once again, not strange at all.

I'm fairly certain it's the same mouse because of how it looks. We've had mice before in my parents' house, and they were either brown or light gray, but this little guy is so dark it almost looks like he's black. It's hard to communicate though because it's so afraid of everything! I'm thinking I might want to go through my rabbit for this. He's not afraid of me (obviously) or the mouse, so I'm thinking he might be a mediator. Does anyone have experience with this?

I was thinking about this, being a pest myself, and I wonder if a banishing spell will suit, and putting bait outside the house? Y' know, address the spirit of Mouse, not just Blackie. I know
They like Doritos chips.

Go-between bunnies? Marsupial negotiators? I can't even get my cats to agree to get along if any 2 try to go thru a door at the same time. But the kleptomaniac male did steal my glasses once, and when I looked at him closely face -to-face and slowly explained I needed them and pictured them, he jumped down and ran to the bedroom. I followed and saw him dive under the bed. There is a treasure trove of cat toys and missing silverware under there. To my surprise, a minute later he batted my glasses out and they skidded to a halt on my foot. That's the only success story I have. Cats, y'know.

How does the rabbit feel about Robbie Rodent stealing his food? I'd bet it's miffed and would willingly relay a message. ... But what's the best message? How about "go -the cat comes." hmm. Needs work. Mainly you need to get the enticement to return out of the mouse's reach. Since mice are nocturnal feeders, remove the rabbit's food at night...just for a few days...and bunny-mail the message that it must go.

If the mouse is that dark, might he be a pet mouse type? Like what you can get at a pet store? That might be part of the problem.

Hi Snow, that's what I've been wondering about as well because it looks so odd.
Had a good chance to observe the little guy yesterday. I had a guest stay the night and the both of us saw it pop its little head up from behind the rabbit's hutch. It tried to sneak in, but my rabbit was still eating and lunged for it. This happened twice, then the rabbit left and went into my bedroom. I get the feeling he wants the tasty bits of food for himself but there's always some seeds and bits in there that he's just not interested in, he'll go as far as to dig them out of the bowl actually, which is part of the reason why removing the food bowl at night won't do much good since those bits are hidden between the sawdust and the mouse would still get those.
After the rabbit disappeared, the mouse came out again, went into the hutch to take some food, and ran off to eat it. This repeated about 4 or 5 times over the course of half an hour, all with 2 humans watching in clear view of the mouse. Once it realised we weren't getting up, it just didn't care.
I just feel very weird about this, because this mouse doesn't look like regular house mice plus I get the impression that it's so scared because it's alone. Mice are social animals that shouldn't ever be alone. I'm going to try and figure out if there are any other mice in my apartment or the building in general, because this seems very odd to me.
