Hello...
My oldest, he's 12 and on the Autism Spectrum(as are my other two sons) and he has a quick fire temper.
As he gets older it gets worse and today he bloodied his brothers lip all because we were watching a show he didn't want to and I wouldn't change it.
All the therapists say is to give him more attention and praise which already happens as best as possible but I know dang well there is more to it than he isn't getting enough.
Does anyone have a spell or stone that might help him with his temper so we can have some peace around here?
I could sure use some suggestions, please and thanks. He is on meds but they don't seem to help so we keep switching to new ones to try, etc.

Re: Anger Spells/Helps
My husband teaches gymnastics to children and has become the go to teacher when it comes to children with autism. He has natural knack for being able to keep them in line in a classroom setting. I don't know anything about it personally, but he attributes this to treating them like regular kids. He sets boundaries and doesn't let them get away with anything just because they have autism. Sometimes he has to really stand his ground but he swears that this makes all the difference. I think that the fact that they are doing something physically challenging probably helps them release too.
I don't know of any magic personally but I would give aromatherapy a try. Lavender and cedar wood usually do the trick for me when I need calming. I hope things get better for you and your sons!

Re: Anger Spells/Helps
Boundaries are very important. I worked with a young man with severe autism. He was 16, 6'4" and close to 300 pounds. He didn't have many boundaries and was physically violent when things didn't go his way. His family was loving, and did what they thought was right at the time. The school and his family would pacify him to keep the peace. They created an unsafe situation. He was dangerous to himself, and others and it broke my heart.
Ways to communicate, supporting regular transitions with lots of warning, and boundaries are essential. I don't know your situation, how severe it is, or how able to communicate your son is, but things like tv and such may need to adhere to more of a schedule or time...so that he knows when his choice is, and when it is somebody else's choice. Please know I'm not judging you at all. I am sure you are doing everything you can. Are there better supports or experts in your community that can help you with behaviour support? There are companies here that work with people with autism and other exceptionalities. It's completely doable, but it takes time and adjustments. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Try a gluten free diet. Help my sister's son.
Re: Anger Spells/Helps
Thank you.
All my boys are higher functioning. My oldest is more of the moderate to high end. I very much treat them like any other kid as I don't believe in letting "quirks" be a crutch(although like many kids he tries LOL).
They all work with therapists/ITV stuff but he has this thing about not getting his way and blowing up. It hasn't mattered what the reason was or wasn't he just flips and swears a lot or punches/kicks. His favorite word is calling me a B or a Moby Dick(because he figures he's swearing without saying an actual swear word I think).
He's just very difficult to figure out even the therapists can't figure out what the deal is. He has schedules and boundaries and I stick to them even though I know what will happen.
It just gets frustrating that nothing seems to help.

I'm sorry that your going through that. Are they in any physical activities? Maybe even just running or biking around the neighborhood will tire them out so they will calm down some.
Hope things settle down in your home. Saying a prayer for you!

Re: Anger Spells/Helps
None of my kids are really sports minded. My oldest is all about HVAC systems and that's what he likes to talk about and watch YouTube videos on, etc.
So none are on teams or anything like that. I'm going to try and get he and my middle son into my gym during the summer because they do have a kid program for those 10-14 years of age. That should help wear them out LOL, although my oldest doesn't ever seem to get that way no matter how much running around he does LOL.
