From experience, I know the mods are going to want you to introduce yourself under our new members forum, though I see you've been a member for quite some time.
As far as feeling like you are in a rut, the best I can suggest is to step back a little and study a little bit more. Taking a little bit of time to read and reflect is what works best for me.

Re: What next?
Let the spirits guide you to the work they want to do. Develop a reliable method of communication, whether it be through meditation, mediumship, crystal gazing, pendulum, automatic writing, etc. Develop your reception. Set aside a specific time to receive their communication and faithfully keep the appointment. Don't commit to more time than you can honestly keep and are willing to offer. That way you will know it's them and not your imagination. Take notes. Write down everything for later study. That is valuable beyond saying.
If you haven't already done so, read books about and by mediums. That will stimulate ideas. But you can't work together until you can communicate. Check out the Ghosts section here, and the sub section on spirits and spirit guides.
Also, set limits. You still have to live your own life & so you get to make the rules.
And please tell us a little about yourself.
