What's your take on this card?

Postby hermitage » Fri Jan 29, 2016 1:46 am

Hey guys,

What do you all think the meaning could be for this card, 8 of cups.

It looks very different from RW version.
I don't know what to make of it. Kind of looks like the Ace of Cups from RW.

Okay, so just off of first glance (and because I read your other post and assume this is from the same deck which seems to have a positive twist on everything) this card is saying to me, it's time to prioritize the "right" relationships (true friends, family, etc.) When you do this, you will feel emotionally sound, and this happiness will flow into all other areas of your life. Again, that's just taking a stab at it.

Typically for me, the 8 of cups means "longing for something or someone". I use an iPhone app to help me study the traditional meanings of the RWS, and this is what it says for 8 of cups. Image

Again, as I mentioned in your other post, it all really comes down to what the reader thinks that it means. Hope that helps!

Yes it does look more like an Ace with the top of the fountain there. But all 8 cups in this card are filled full, overflowing and so the excess water is just flowing away giving life to the stones where new flowers and green plants are growing. So it still has the elements of moving on.

Not only moving on, but moving on towards much better place and although the journey is going to be tough, in the end you'll just be on the top. It feels like a reminder that up there... an oasis is waiting. Great imagery.

Great responses guys.
Here's the definition from the accompanying book someone had...

8 cups

Hod manifesting through water
Emotion/intuition in the sphere of logic

[descriptions of Rider Waite, Golden dawn etc]

Description-
Like the 3 of cups- a fountain a with water flows into 4 cups, overflows into 4 more, then flows into 4 patches of flowers.

Interp -
Emotion with thought-common sense, logic prevails.
Mind and heart are in accord.

8 is about re-evaluating and transitions - moving from one phase to another.
Cups are emotions, feelings, relationships, expression.

So 8 of cups would be re-evaluating your feelings and finding you are unhappy, unfulfilled and needing to move on, turn away from the situation.

But moving on can be hard, and the unknown may be more difficult - represented by the mountains and rocks in your picture.
The cups are of glasses and say celebration to me - achievement - but moving on as those achievement aren't worth staying where you are.
