Just small questions about a spell: burning paper

Postby Binglian » Fri Jun 19, 2015 3:52 pm

I did a spell last night which requires me to burn a piece of paper in my prayer candle. The whole piece of paper burns perfectly, expect the last 1 cm cube of paper, which did not burn. I tried many times to burn that small piece of paper, but it have little luck. But because the remaining paper is so small, it's almost unnoticeable. But I am still wondering what does it mean? Would it have any potential effect to my spell?

Also, after the spell, I feel extremely tired and depressed. And at some point at night, I feel frightened for no reasons. Is that normal?

I think when a paper doesn't burn thoroughly and completely it may indicate some difficulty in the spell, or some part of you that may be not fully ready or prepared to receive the benifits of the spell. I have also found that while it may work, it takes longer to have the desired effect. Papers that go burn up fast and furious may have quicker actions and thoses that burn up slow will take time to attain. Bury any remaining ash including the scrap, wait a month and if it appears as though little or no headway has been made you can try again. But there are many schools of thought that say...let it go, once a spell has been preformed know that the desired outcome will be yours and don't look back.

Do you care to give a more specific nature of the spell?

Fire is the transmutative element, as well as the purifying (think trials by fire).

When I first started working with Fire, I began to experience past emotions coming to the surface as they were volatilized and 'cooked' out of my energy channels. So to feel depressed, frightened and/or tired after working with Fire is reasonable (and means you're most likely doing it right).

If you're using your own personal energy to power the spell with intention, then it is also reasonable to feel tired afterwards, as you've just expended energy.

So from my perspective, nothing out of the ordinary :)

I'd also like to add that there's a chance that it's symbolic in some way. (: I know that when I did a spell awhile ago, and I tried to burn the paper it only burned a little bit. What was left behind when I unfolded the piece was a hole in the shape of an elephant. I've later found out that an elephant is one of my spirit animal guides. There are various reasons as to why this could have happened, and I think it's important to take a look at the situation yourself to see if you can find anything that speaks to you about it. Did you see anything out of the ordinary with the piece of paper, perhaps some kind of sign on it that might mean something to you? Or was is just not burning, symbolizing as FF said? I know I say it often, to look at how you feel and how it speaks to you but that's because I truly believe witchcraft and paganism is incredibly unique to the individual practicing so we can give general advice on a situation but really it comes down to the one practicing. That's just my take on it. ^_^

And corvidus brings up good points, that you're using your own energy to send your will into the universe so it's totally normal to feel tired afterwards. (:

Let us know how it works out~

Thank you for you guys' answers! Sorry I can not give more details to the shape of the paper because I scattered them to the grass after the spell was performed (required by the spell). I hope that would still be okay. :( But I think it has this perfect triangle shape initially, and after many times of burning... it becomes a little bit round.

I do think there are a lot of obstacles to my wish (this is a wish spell). A lot of people opposed to my desires, and I think no one really understand why I choose that path (It's nothing evil or bad). So I think that would be why the paper does not burn sufficiently as Firebirdflys said. I do hope that as a spell is done, the desire outcomes will be mine since I feel so powerless with the wishes of the others, and really want to decide my own path.

And Corvidus, I don't know what properties does this spell have either. It requires me to blend some essential herbs together and light a prayer candle which I used to burn my paper. Then I'm required to mix the ashes and herbs together. I do believe that probably that the burning process draws out my energy. In my other post, I stated that during the burning process, the water candle suddenly becomes extremely weak for no reason. So I'm guessing that would be the reason. I also felt extremely sad, with feverish symptoms that lasted for two days. So probably that would be what you mean. Also, I don't usually cast circle when doing spell, and maybe the circle helps to draw some of my energy as well.
