Does Binding Spell Affect Free Will?

Hi Guys,

So I've been contemplating for some time doing a binding spell on a family member who has for years and years on end been causing huge amounts of hurt, pain and emotional distress to just about everyone they can. I wish I could say that this person was only causing emotional distress, but they have been known at times to cause physical distress through violence as well.

Like I said I'm strongly considering doing a binding spell, however, I'm a little worried about free will. I'm a strong believer that you shouldn't mess with someone's free will. For me, my spell work has always been a form of meditation to focus myself and the energies of the world to bring about positive change in my life. I've never really done anything that has asked the powers that be to manipulate anything in someone else's life. I've tried to stray away from that stuff just out of caution.

This person, however, is causing so much harm I can't even express the amount of hurt, pain and anguish they are bringing to others.

What are your opinions on the matter? Would a binding spell be permissible under the three fold law or would I be messing with someone's free will?

Any advice or input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Why don't you make an intro post in the Member Profiles & Introductions section so we can get to know you better? You'll likely get a much bigger response that way.

That being said, it's good that you're conscientious about your spell work, particularly when it comes to another person. I've had to do a binding spell before, and I only recommend it as something to turn to in dire or extreme situations because of the very reasons you've outlined. I've had no repercussions after performing the spell, but I believe that was because the energies I was working with recognized how serious the situation I found myself in was (you can read the thread here). Energy is a living, sentient thing and it knows your intentions. If you're looking to bind this person for selfish reasons, what you work with will know and things will balance out accordingly (namely, you'll get a comeuppance). Be very sure and be very aware of your motivations.

Also, keep in mind that a binding is something that will need to be refreshed if you're intending for the results to be long-term. You're basically wrapping your energy and that of whatever powers you invoke around another individual's and it's only natural that they'll resist, unconsciously or deliberately. I had to perform the ritual once a week after the initial spell was cast, but that can vary depending on the strength of the spell and the person you are binding.

I agree with Heartsong that a serious situation requires serious measures. And when a spell is done in a way that it doesn't harm the object of it, but only keeps them from doing harm, I don't see why would there be any repercussions. I know messing with the free will is not a good thing (the Gods know I've tried and tried to explain that to many people here), but then again, this person is messing with your free will, keeping you and others from living your life the way you want it. So a binding spell sometimes can be considered a self defence spell, I think.
Here's what I've come up with before. I had to use this because I found myself in a situation where a certain person was making my life miserable, even though there was no physical part in it.

I would suggest, however, you do your own version - rituals and spells tend to work better if you create them yourself.
And to second Heartsong again, all binding spells need to be repeated every once in a while, although I think I actually repeated this one every month or so for about 6 - 7 months.
