The Contradiction of Wishes

Postby Aesiryth » Wed Apr 22, 2015 1:23 pm

Before I get into this I just want to say that if you don't believe in wishes then please just ignore this post.

So, I'm sure everyone has heard the phrase "be careful what you wish for". I have heard people say that they wished for certain things and it was taken too literal and turned into something bad rather than what they actually wanted. This troubles me because what if it is something good that we wish for and we get something bad in return. For example (this is completely hypothetical), if I wish for green lights all the way to work and instead a car crash happens due to too many lights being green. Okay that one might have been a bit harsh so here's a better example. If I wish for the ability to like someone I absolutely hate and instead I fall in love with them. So hopefully you get the idea. Is deity just trying to tell us not to make wishes or...what? I know that some things are meant to happen to the extreme to teach lessons, but some wishes are for good and not selfish whatsoever. What do you guys think? Should wishes just simply not be made or is there an idea that you believe in that could explain this?

This reminds me of that Charmed episode with the genie. The sisters are warned that genies are not malevolent in nature but their fulfillment of wishes comes with a hitch: say you wish for a new car, then your dad dies and he gifts you his car in his will.

It seems like a slippery slope. I personally haven't fully formed my opinion on how I think this shifting of universal energies works. Maybe it is in the strength of will of the wisher; if your wish is propelled by a weak will, the manifestation of your wish is weaker. I don't know, but I'm very interested to hear the opinions of other members. Interesting topic. :)

I saw this just the other day and have been pondering since. When I think of the phrase, "be careful what you wish for..." I think first of those of us whom have wished for a certain someone to love us. People aren't who you think they are in some instances, or more they aren't who you want them to be. So the phrase reminds me of situations I have wished upon myself only to realize what I thought I wanted wasn't what I got. There have been cases where I wished for the love of someone I thought had everything I wanted in a relationship but I hadn't "considered" the person's negative attributes. And in some situations, I wished for something/someone only to realize later that it's not what I truly wanted.
The second situation that quickly follows when I hear the phrase, "be careful what you wish for..." Lottery Winners. How many of us have wished for more money? But we may not have "considered" the responsibilities that the monies comes with. I'm referring more so to the large sums of money won.

I still believe in wishes. Another saying that comes to mind with wishes.... "A closed mouth don't get fed" ;) I say Keep On Wishing!!!

I do believe the phase "What comes around, goes around". I think when you wish for something, you have to pay it back in some ways. Like you can not just wish for love, money AND other good stuff, and not pay for anything. I think it might be unfair for the others. But I think as long as you don't wish for too much stuff, and you repay it in some forms, it usually won't matter too much.

I also heard cases like loosing money when wish for more money. Although I don't know the validity of that story, I think it's entirely possible. I think maybe the person who is performing the spell have other things in his/her mind, which causes his inaccuracy? I always have anxiety when performing such spells because I'm always afraid that my intentions wouldn't be pure enough, and it would lead to opposite results. I think people's intentions and knowledge are very important.
