Going away for treatment.... Scared
I'm going to the Renfrew Institute for treatment for my bulimia, and im really scared. Last time I was in a long term residential treatment, I was abused emotionally and physically and im kinda skeptical now.
You may call me Valerian Moon, or simply Val.

Good thoughts and good luck. If you have any issues report them immediately.
Re: Going away for treatment.... Scared
Best of luck, Moon Raver ... if you get a chance, keep us posted on how you're doing! As Holda says, if you do wind up with issues, I hope there's some kind of reporting system in place. Sending love and light your way.

Bravo that you're getting help. Try to keep your thoughts positive throughout the process. Our thoughts hurt us, our thoughts help us...depends on which ones we choose to let guide our actions, moment by moment. As Holdasown suggested, if anybody talks rudely to you, whether other clients or the staff themselves, firstly tell them they have no right to talk to you/treat you like that. Then, report whoever it is immediately (there's always somebody higher up than the someone you're dealing with, always), even if that includes writing a pointed letter to the president of the company, which by the way, can be quite effective, hehe. You are going there to heal, so you have a right to demand a safe space for that.
We'll be here, rooting for you.

Good luck. Let them know how you are feeling and about your issues from the last time. Its important for them to know as those fears and worries will effect your treatment. If they know ahead of time where your concerns about treatment (how they treat you) are they can work with you on them. You are strong for going in and getting help.

Good Luck, Moon Raver. Sometimes the most important steps are the scariest ones. Get well soon, dear. I'll be praying for you.

Good luck on your treatment. Stay positive. As someone who eight years ago was in your shoes, please know, it can be done. You can heal. The body is incredibly resilient. The trials we face will only serve to make us stronger. Hang in there.
Best wishes for a safe, healing experience.

Thanks for all your support guys, I haven't gone yet but I'm also wondering if I can have led candles there for rituals and such. That's another thing in worried about. Also, my mother said she would pick me up if there were any problems.

You can always ask. Some may say no. If you explain its for religious/spiritual purposes most places will be willing to work with you on finding some sort of accommodation. You may need to alter your practices a little bit, but I am confident they will work with you on finding some way you can do your practices. Most of these places understand that spiritual work is important to recovery with MI/MH and health in general. xxmoonxraverxx, acknowledging your condition and actually taking action to seek treatment is important. Glad you're seeking treatment. It will be a difficult time, having a battle with yourself but please don't give up! If you're afraid of not getting support from fellow clients there, do speak up for yourself and to the staff. Nobody should be rude to anyone for no reason at all.
Then again, sometimes, the people there may be more edgy because getting treatment, controlling their compulsion is never easy. That frustration may make them... a terrible person. I'm imagining a hungry person getting angry - it's not them but the hunger is making them grumpy etc. That doesn't mean they can bully others but maybe they're not aware of it so it can be good to give them a little reminder.

Re: Going away for treatment.... Scared
I just replied to your other thread. I went to Renfrew in 2000, the one in coconut creek Florida. It was the beginning of my recovery journey and set me on my path. They truly helped to save my life. Keep on keepin' on. Recovery IS possible. ~Blessed Be~
