I need some thoughts on self - distructive mindset

Postby YanaKhan » Mon Jul 28, 2014 3:25 pm

Hello again everyone.
As I have mentioned before, I have been kinda sabotaging myself over the years on different occasions. Today I got diagnosed with Hashimoto syndrome which is an autoimmune syndrome. It's nothing big, it's in a very very early stage and for now I don't need therapy (my thyroid gland is producing the right amount of hormones).
My question is actually do you think something like self - destructive behavior in the past and self loathing can cause an autoimmune syndrome? I mean, I am not into it anymore, but I did have a lot of hatred for myself. (I know I sound like a wimp, but I actually would really like to know what you think). Thank you.

Well, I'm not saying yes or no either way since I'm not entirely sure it's ever been scientifically proven. However, people talk all the time about how negativity can lead to many health problems and shorter life spans because it's just unhealthy for you. I'm not saying, of course, this happened, but it could be a possibility. Sometimes, though, things just happen. ): I used to be like that too, so you're not alone. I have a chronic illness that definitely makes me feel down sometimes, so I really can relate.

Hey Yanakhan, this is really interesting.
I have to admit I've got exactly the same problem!

I don't think it's specifically caused by destructive behaviours and self-loathing. I always respected my body and my health and naver hated myself or injured myself in any way. Besides that I was always absorbed in exploring my psyche and working with any problems to improve myself and develop my consciousness. And yet I've got the same syndrome as you ;)
It has more to do with subconscious and can be caused by problems on many different levels, some of them so deep that you can't even "dig" them yourself. Personally I'd rather believe it's connected to your past-life problems than to your current situation. It depends on how couscious and eager to work on your emotions you are, but still.

Good news for you is that you're diagnosed and from now on you can work on it and repair it :)
I wasn't as lucky as you.

You know... I sometimes think my gall bladder was removed because I didn't have the gall to put up with the shit that was going on around me.
So ya in a way I believe our attitudes can effect body parts...
good reason to keep things as stress free as possible (like I'm one to talk    )I also let the stress of the situation where I had no gall, cause me a heart tachycardia that required a radio ablation, scary stuff...but better than the alternative which was a trip to the er and a drug to temporarily stop the heart. That was getting real old, and expensive, and scary.
I used to get angry at my self, because I felt so helpless in the situation that caused the stress, and then all that health shit bombarded me, it was like a huge wake up call that I have yet to answer. I still remain rather frozen in my fear from the stress and worry how that may manifest later in life. So far it looks like it will be in wrinkles!...but seriously, negativity is not our friend, and I personally am struggling to find some peace of mind and healing, but that alone has been a very long hard process.
I hope you are doing ok, they have pretty good success with treating thyroid disease these days, sending you hugs, stay strong :fairy:

Thank you, everyone.
It's interesting people view it different ways and it all makes sense. I guess a person can sabotage him/herself and unlock a syndrome. But if you have one it doesn't necessarily mean you are self sabotaging.
I am sorry ff, and Levitating Cat, about the issues you have with your health. It's horrible, especially when you suspect yourself in doing this to yourself (if that makes any sense). I hope you both get better soon. You are in my thoughts.
The truth is I do feel guilty for having this which is kinda circling around - you dislike yourself for causing a sickness you caused because you don't like yourself. Just ingenious. :evilwitch: I have to work on that issue.
Thanks again for your thoughts.

Aww, thanks for the kind words, Elcida! You're in my thoughts too, I know this syndrome can be very annoying and tricky to work with but I wish you the best with all my heart! You can rock it, girl!

Self loathing is no stranger to me either, so if you come up with a way to turn that switch off please le me know! Because as you know the whole mind, body, spirit thing is a triplicity that is tightly woven. And I have found my spirituality waning because the other 2 things have been an issue.
:evilwitch:
But I keep my chin up and know there is always tomorrow...ha! That sounds like a procrastinators mantra! Well lets just say the road is long and bumpy and you gotta keep at it.

probably. my self destructive behavior has led to health problems, and if it's caught the same way aids is, then you might have gotten it from risky behavior.

No, Hashimoto syndrome is when your immune system attacks your thyroid gland and is not really something you "catch". And yes, I do agree you can unlock something like that by self - hatred. Thanks for your thoughts.
