Handfasting
I feel somewhat silly posting this since I am not new to the craft at all, but I can't seem to find an answer. My fiance and I have been together for three years. I have a child with my soon to be ex husband, so because of that our divorce has been a very long ongoing process. We would like to have a handfasting ceremony and although I know it would not be a legal wedding I was wondering if it would be seen as a legitimate handfasting to the god and goddess. Or if it would just be better off to wait until I am legally free. Thanks

You do not need to use the bible to justify love, however no greater tool has been created to justify hate.
Re: Handfasting
Hey AphroditeMoon, congratulations! Well, when I think of handfastings and weddings in general, I think the purpose is to recognize a particular relationship as formal and, well, sacred. To WHOM the wedding/handfasting is sacred varies widely -- to the government, to your families, to your communities, to God/the gods/the God and the Goddess, to each other. As you said, it wouldn't be legitimate in the eyes of the government. But I think if you plan on making this wedding sacred to you and your partner, and treating the resulting union as sacred and formal to everyone you know, I see no reason why it would not be legitimate in the eyes of the God and the Goddess.

Thank you! That was my original thought, but I wanted another opinion as well.
