I get that way too. What helps my mild fear is doing a protection once a year and casting a protective web over mirrors, windows, and doors in the apartment. ^^
I've heard though that you can use a hand held mirror as a wand, so that might be an interesting switch up. You know, learn to work with it an it loses some of the fear.
