Solitary Witch by Silver Ravenwolf
Solitary Witch by Silver Ravenwolf
I know that there are alot of people that don't like Silver, but I do. People say that she just open up Wicca/Paganism to the world and makes it simple and easy. And this is true. But with the more books she writes the more she has to say. She is an easy read and is very imformative. She doesn't have any fluff that doesn't need to be there. She gives you histoy, spells, the rules, everything you need to know.
I have just bought the book, and I have not completed reading it, as of this far (about after some 120 pages) I love it. I didn't really like her Teen Witch book, but this book is great. It has something for everyone. It has correspondes laid out simply, herbs, gods and goddesses, ritual layouts, and not so much the basics. This is a great book for anyone who has gotten past how to cast a circle and all of the terms of Paganism and wants to advance to that higher level that they need. This is every young adults dream BOS that has been printed. It is as if an entire library at your hands, comprised into one book.
Even if you don't like Silver, at least check it out because believe me it is worth the 20 dollars.

I've read several of her books and this is the only one I recommend. It is a great book. Her other books seem fluffy to me, but not this one. I definitely recommend this one to anyone.

I'm reading her Teen Witch book right now, it's alright I guess. Not as good as others I've read so far but there are somethings in there that I like and can learn from.
Other books on my lists that I've read:
Out Of the Shadows by.. Lilith (somebody can't remember book got stolen :/)
The Wicca Handbook By: Eileen Holland
I also bought a idiots guide of Wicca/Witchcraft which is imformative but only teachs the basics.

I have a few books by Silver Ravenwolf and i think she's a good author if you're just beginning. she gives good information on rules and religion, although sometimes she can be a little inaccurate at times. she writes in a friendly, open way which is good for people who are just beginning their paths or want to know a little more about Wicca etc - i got my boyfriend to read Teen Witch when i told him that i was Wiccan.
Okay, I bought this book a few weeks ago, but wanted to finish reading it before I made my judgement. Given Silver's other work, I was a bit skeptical, but after reading it, I would recommend it to anybody who wants a good over-view of wicca. It gives mostly straight facts, but does it in an enjoyable manner. There really isn't anything in here that would get even one of her usual haters worked up.

Silver Ravenwolf = Fluffy wicca
She regurgitates for an under 18 year old readership true witchcraft. The spells that she places in her books are ineffective and a waste of time.
If you enjoy harry potter, read her books, if you want to understand the true wiccan path move on.
Most serious magickians will not even look in her books.

Point
Fair enough but when you are still learning the craft and are still also at the early stages Silver Raven Wolf's book is helpful. I have just recently bought it and am using it alongside two others in order to increase my awareness of the craft.

I think silver ravenwolf is great and solitary witch is absolutely fantastic. I dont understand those who say otherwise just because some of her history facts are wrong. (iv noticed a lot of books on witchcraft which have facts wrong). A lot of wiccans read her books and dont agree with them yet they forget her books dont actually target wicca but the Craft generally. This book is really helpful.

You can learn something from any book you read, even a bad one. IMO, her books are good if you have a table that wobbles, stick in under the leg.
